Job Description:The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of laboratory tests of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.   • Department/Unit: Transfusion with cross training in RRL
  • Additional Details: Position will be eligible for shift differentialsThe Registered Med Tech/MLS performs testing in various departments of the clinical lab, such as Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Transfusion, and more. These scientists act as a technical expert to clinical staff, co-workers, and other departments. They are critical to patient diagnosis and care, ensuring accurate results through quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations, record review, instrument maintenance, and results/analyzer troubleshooting.Intermountain caregivers in this role will have opportunities for growth, taking on additional responsibilities such as:
    • Key operator
    • QC review
    • Training and mentoring new staff
    • Assisting with evaluation and validation of new equipment
    • Technical writing
    • Compliance readiness (CAP, CLIA, etc.)
    • Acting as interim Team LeadThis position requires organizational skills as well as the ability to navigate many technical processes with a high level of detail. These caregivers work well as a member of a team and maintain a clean and safe work environment.Minimum Qualifications:
      • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. - OR - C ompletion of course work and internship requirements in a qualified MLS program and eligibility to sit for the BOC. Certification must be completed and documented within 6 months of hire to remain in the registered MLS role.
      • Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist certification or equivalent certification as approved by Manager and Human Resources. Certification must be maintained to remain in job.
      • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights and on-callPreferred Qualifications:
        • Experience with laboratory information systems.
        • Experience in relevant areas of the clinical laboratory.
        • Demonstrated ability to use laboratory systems, databases, and spreadsheets.
        • Demonstrated effective communication skills using email, telephone, and in person.Physical Requirements:
          • Interact with others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information.
          • Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
          • See and read lab equipment, monitors, and documents.
