Position Description
Perform HVAC Control systems design, programming, troubleshooting,
installation, startup and commissioning in a wide variety of
facilities from critical tolerance laboratories, manufacturing
processes to office environments. Works with a variety of
mechanical equipment and low-voltage components including
protocol-based interfaces to connect and share data among related
equipment to facilitate effective control of facilities and utility
consumption.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electronic engineering, mechanical
engineering, computer engineering, industrial automation, or
related field; OR an equivalent combination of 5 years of related
education and experience in programming, installing, and
maintaining networked HVAC controls systems.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Strong working knowledge of commercial networked HVAC controls
systems
Working knowledge of BACnet and Modbus communications protocols
with a minimum of 3 years' experience
Excellent understanding of the commercial HVAC equipment operating
principles, theory and control methodology used in hot/chilled
water systems, DX and VRF systems, steam heating, boilers, VAV and
other modular HVAC equipment.
A valid Driver's License issued by the State of Utah
This position will work on Department of Defense facilities and
must be capable of passing a pre-employment background check and
post-employment background investigation necessary to be granted
access to DOD facilities and secured computing (IT) equipment and
networks.
Must receive a negative test result on a mandatory substance abuse
test and will remain subject to random alcohol and drug testing as
well as post-accident testing.
Essential Functions

Layout HVAC controls for a variety of mechanical systems including
creating drawings for panel fabrication, instrumentation and
control device selection, installation details, sequences of
operation, startup, testing and commissioning procedures and
plans.
Program electronic controller devices, server databases and
Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) to create an effective and
operational control scheme that maintains the specified level of
control tolerance while ensuring efficient and safe operation of
the mechanical equipment.
Create reports, historical profiles and trend logs for customer
requirements.
Interfaces equipment such as VFDs, CRACs, VRF controllers, chillers
and boilers using BACnet or Modbus protocols as required to effect
a completely integrated control system.
Install control systems in new facilities and upgrade control
systems in existing facilities as needed while connecting to the
base-wide facility control system.
Troubleshoot communication and control issues as well as managing
all displays, schedules, trend logs, alarms, etc. as requested by
customer or specifying engineer.
Diagnose, repair, and calibrate sensors, controllers, actuators,
and accessory devices.
Communicate effectively with other contractors and employees,
customers, supervisors, and management.
Assist with third party commissioning of controlled mechanical
systems in new and renovated facilities.
Train other less experienced engineers and assist with any required
customer training.
General Requirements
Must possess knowledge of and/or possess the ability to:
Basic networking and interface protocols and how to share data
across different devices.
Installation, programming, and networking of control equipment and
third-party devices.
Standard practices and procedures in the design and installation of
an HVAC control system connected to a site-wide building automation
system.
Mechanical HVAC equipment and systems, and their design and
operation.
Use of Microsoft Visio (or AutoDesk), Outlook, Word, and Excel
applications software.
Use of Sharepoint and PROCORE software
Proper use of PPE and other safety equipment, and safety procedures
and protocols.
Read and interpret control wiring and other electrical
diagrams/schematics.
Modify control system sequences, including HMI graphics and
database as required.
Configure alarms, including notifications as well as reports,
trends and historical data archiving per engineer requirements.
Proficiently use computing equipment as needed to interact with a
wide variety of control system components, back-up systems, cloud
repositories, intranet and internet sites, online payroll systems,
project management tools and other application software.
Trouble shoot and diagnose communication and other control issues
with various types of controls and communications devices.
Diagnose complex control system issues when it is not easily
determined where the problem lies (mechanical or controls)
Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical
drawings.
Ability to work efficiently, productively, and with minimal
supervision.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,
operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to
speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an
organization.
Travel/On-Call
This position is subject to being called to work prior to and after
the scheduled shift. May require occasional or extended travel
out-of-town based on project need. The employee will have
unrestricted on-call duties in this position.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of
measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and
interpret bar graphs.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have
knowledge of Excel Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software
and Outlook Internet software.
IT and Networking Skills
Basic understanding of networking principles; specifically
networking connectivity and the ability to troubleshoot networking
links and field-verify IT equipment. Competency certificates are
not required (i.e., A+ Networking, Cisco System certification,
etc.) but are helpful in determining the level of technical
aptitude for IT troubleshooting capability.
Equipment/Systems
Ability to operate standard office machines such as copiers,
computers, fax, calculator, etc. and proficient in typical office
technologies such as computers, tablet devices, and associated
software.
Confidential Data
Work with some confidential data of major importance such as
development or research projects or profit margins which, if
disclosed, may be detrimental to the company's interest.
Security Clearance
Ability to pass government background check for restricted area
access.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and

problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
